Getting Your Family Ready For NYE

Katie Ellison has been writing the multi award-winning family lifestyle blog Mummy Daddy Me, where she documents her family memories through photos and video, for almost five years. She lives in Cambridgeshire and has two little girls aged 4 and 2, and a baby boy due in April 2016.

New Year’s Eve is one of the biggest parties in the calendar. Before we had children, we would spend weeks planning what to wear and what to do – whether that would be a night out, a house party with friends, or a romantic meal at one of our favourite restaurants.

When you become a parent, NYE suddenly doesn’t seem quite so exciting. Or, at least, I didn’t use to think so.

In actual fact, having young children doesn’t mean you are destined for an ordinary night. There are lots of fun things that you can do together as a family. Here are just three of them…

Get Dressed Up And Go Out For An Early Dinner

Young children aren’t going to want to be out at midnight, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have to miss the fun of getting dressed up and going out. Why not head out for lunch or for an early dinner? It means you can still dress the children up in adorable outfits and have the fun of going out to a restaurant, but be back home in time for bed and before it gets too busy.

Have A Movie And Sleepover Night

Embrace the fact you are staying in and make a night of it. Get lots of popcorn and chocolate, and bring the duvets down from the bed. Snuggle on the sofa together, watching some of the family films that are out at the moment. Just make sure you get some matching cosy PJs to really make the night special. After all, staying in is the new going out.

Have Friends Over For A Family-Friendly Party

Why not invite some friends round? Get some party food, put the music on and play some family-friendly games. (A current favourite is Sshh! Don’t Wake Dad!) Then put the children to bed once they are tired and continue the fun until the countdown.

These are just some ideas for a fabulous family NYE. I can’t wait to see 2016 in with my little girls by my side. Wishing you all a very happy New Year!
